Here are the charities that will benefit from the Wirral Scout Christmas post in 2008

ADVOCACY IN WIRRAL – We provide, advice, support & representation to people, who experience mental health problems, and to people who lack capacity to make their own choices. We also ensure that they are fully involved in the planning of the services that they use in order to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY - We support people with Dementia together with their Families in order to provide information and raise awareness of this illness.

WIRRAL CHURCHES ARK PROJECT (THE ARK) – We operate a Hostel for the homeless that offers a bed, facilities to wash clothes and shower and provides three meals a day, in a supportive atmosphere, for 365 days a year, together with operating six ‘move-on’ intermediary houses.

CALDAY GRANGE SWIMMING POOL TRUST - We maintain Calday Grange Swimming Pool for the communal use of local Clubs and Organisations.

CLAIRE HOUSE – We provide specialist respite & palliative, and end-of-life care for children and young people aged from birth to 23 years with life limiting conditions.

EASTHAM ADULT DAY CENTRE PARENT/CARERS ASSOCIATION - We enable and assist in the purchase of Equipment for people with learning disabilities to participate and be inclusive in the Community, and to help them reach their potential and achieve a better quality of life.

FAMILY TREE - We support Carers and Families of people suffering from severe mental health problems.

MERSEYSIDE AUTISTIC CHILDRENS SOCIETY – We provide continued support to families and carers of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome or a Social Communication Disorder, and that support is flexible, so as to meet the differing needs of each family.

PARKINSONS SOCIETY - WIRRAL BRANCH - We help people and their relatives with the problems arising from Parkinson’s Disease, and also collect and disseminate information. Our aim is to help create a caring environment, to encourage and support people to cope a little better with the problems they are suffering.

ST JOHN’S HOSPICE IN WIRRAL – We are building a new wing to allow more patients and their families to benefit from the very special care of St John’s Hospice in the future.

SAMARITANS OF LIVERPOOL & MERSEYSIDE - We provide confidential emotional support to those experiencing despair, distress or suicidal feelings, including those on the Wirral.

SUNDOWNS - We support people who have Down’s Syndrome together with their families. We also raise awareness of the positive contribution people who have Down’s Syndrome make to society.

W.I.R.E.D. (Wirral Information Resource for Equality & Disability) (Shopmobility) - We provide scooters, power chairs & wheelchairs for people on the Wirral (& further afield) for shopping – to anyone with a permanent or temporary impairment.

WIRRAL SOCIETY OF THE BLIND AND PARTIALLY SIGHTED – We help, support and advise to those who are blind or partially sighted. We have a Resource Centre equipped with daily living aids & low vision equipment. We offer a range of social & creative activities, training opportunities, and outreach support, together with operating a drop-in advice service.
